This great standalone story that centers around Cheyenne, a vampire character in the game world Eden. The story explores what it means to pay as a monster in a world where dying in game means dying in real life.
Blacksalt Slayer
Blacksalt Slayer is a wonderful standalone story in the permadeath legacy series. It begins with a player just trying to make enough money playing a VR game to pay for rent and food. Unfortunately for this player, he’s been accused of a crime that he didn’t commit. If he’s caught his character could face death not only in the game but in real life. Even though it’s short, the author combines action, mistaken identity, a murder mystery thing.
World of Prime
Christopher Sinclair goes out for a walk on a mild Arizona evening and never comes back. He stumbles into a freezing winter under an impossible night sky, where magic is real -- but bought at a terrible price.
That brings me to the thing that just barely keeps this from being a LitRPG story. Realism. Within the story are all the elements of LitRPG: leveling, experience points, alignment, classes and spell points. They’re all just called different things and pushed into the background for the sake of realism in the story.
The Chaos Wave

Follow him on his adventures in this digital game world. This book contains part 1- Luck and Death and part 2- Goblins and Dwarves. Part 3 -Rage and Chaos is not yet written.

Hell’s Glitch
In the novel, the main character is a video game tester that loves dark and difficult games. Boy does he get what he’s looking for. The combat in the VR game is brutal, difficult, and more dependent on skill and tactics than stats. The game mechanics are very familiar replacing XP with souls.
If you like the Dark Souls video games you’ll probably like this novel. Also, turns out there is a series of comics based on the Dark Souls franchise you can read after you’re done with this.
