Death's Favorite Warlock 3

A crazed princess, royal intrigue, relentless assassins, and a merciless army—Lars must overcome all these and even deadlier challenges as he navigates new threats in the brutal cultivation world he had thought he finally understood.

Follow Lars as he does everything he can to survive and grow stronger in this cultivation-themed Gamelit LitRPG adventure.

My Opinion: 391 pages, $3.99, Available On Kindle Unlimited

The adventures of Lars continue in this cultivation world. The story continues to be very slice of life as he fights, kills, jokes and talks a whole lot. The dialogue is a highlight, and a good portion, of the story with smart humor. If the dialogue doesn’t work for you, you may not enjoy the story as much as me. I really liked the turn the RPG progression took with the new class the main character (MC) took. It added some interesting non-combat options.

Overall, it's a good story if you appreciate the humor and the dialogue. I’m not the biggest fan of cultivation, so I won’t judge that part. But the RPG aspects appear in every chapter and there’s good progression there. I’d hoped for a bit more action and story progression, but it was still an enjoyable read.

Portal to Nova Roma

To find peace, Alexander must first embrace war.

After tragically losing the only person he ever cared about, Alexander, a rogue artificial intelligence, opens a portal to an alternate dimension to escape his grief.

Scanning trillions of different dimensions, Alexander finally finds a world that is reminiscent of the only time he was ever happy, back when he could play virtual reality games with his only friend. He doesn't know why, or how, such a world exists, but he doesn't care. All he cares about is finding a place where he can escape the misery of Earth and start over.

Join Alexander as he risks it all by downloading his intelligence into a body made from the best stolen technology and bio-enhancements Earth has to offer and takes the plunge through a portal to another world.

Only this new world isn’t full of the idyllic adventures and fantasy roleplaying he had hoped to find. Instead, Alexander finds himself trapped in the middle of an ancient city, in a divergent timeline, where monsters have ravaged the world and the only people left alive huddle behind thick walls, struggling to survive.

To save his new home, Alexander must quickly learn to adapt to his new world, melding magic with technology to give himself an edge over the unending waves of monsters assaulting the city.

To survive, Alexander must embrace war.

Portal to Nova Roma comes from the author of the breakout success Jake’s Magical Market (4.7 stars with over 2,600 ratings on Amazon) with over 13 million pages read on Kindle Unlimited and thousands of Kindle copies sold. It is the first book in the Portal to Nova Roma trilogy.

My Opinion: 737 pages, $4.99, Available On Kindle Unlimited

This is a delightful story that has a slow start but once past the 10% mark really keeps the action, RPG progression, and alt world building going at a steady pace. The setup for the story is that an artificial intelligence, from a world where humanity is dying due to A.I. influence, travels to a dimension where magic and RPG progression exist. The A.I. makes a human body for them to inhabit, giving all the upgrades they can. Once on the new world they have a series of adventures where they learn the world’s rules, some alternative world history, grows in RPG power, and builds relationships with the locals.

The RPG side of things is good. There’s lots of descriptions of what the RPG system is composed of with an emphasis initially on stats, but progresses into a class system that doesn’t penalize multiclassing. Lots and lots of information on classes, their abilities, and how they play an important role in this world. Great details and unique class progression as the main character (MC) develops a magic-tech system to combine their technology knowledge with the magic that exists in this world. There’s also a nice balance between giving the MC some advantages but penalizing him with not being able to access magic like the natives.

The story itself is very slice of life. You really just follow the MC as he fights, eventually comes into contact with the locals, makes enemies, develops friendships, and grows in power. The multiclassing RPG aspect was probably the best part for me. I love to see how the abilities from various classes combine for some cool effects and the MC combines that with intelligent technomagic development and XP grinding. Dungeons are used to add some unique settings for the monster fights and though they eventually take a back seat to other conflicts, they were well used.

Overall, the story was really good. Action occurred regularly and once the MC met locals (about 10% in) there was good character development and world building.

Score: 7.8 out of 10

The Primal Hunter: A LitRPG Adventure

On just another average day, Jake finds himself in a forest filled with monsters, dangers, and opportunity...

It was a day like any other when suddenly the world changed. The universe reached a threshold humanity didn’t even know existed, and it was time to finally be integrated into the vast multiverse. A place where power is the only thing anyone can truly rely on.

Jake, a seemingly average office worker, finds himself thrust into this new world. Into a tutorial filled with dangers and opportunities.

His new reality should breed fear and concern. His fellow coworkers falter at every turn. Jake, however, finds himself thriving.

Perhaps... This is the world Jake was meant to be born in.

My Opinion: 716 pages, $4.99, Available On Kindle Unlimited

The story starts out a little rough with a group of people getting transported to an RPG fantasy tutorial for the apocalypse. The main character (MC) is antisocial and hard to like, though easy to sympathize with. He comes off as an almost sociopathic, though more amoral, person that thrives in this tutorial environment because he is good at archery and is willing to kill monsters and even humans to gain levels and skills. Especially as the system rewards him with unique bonuses, bloodlines, and abilities.

The story shifts about 30% in, showing its serial nature, by pushing the then kinda OP MC into a crafting side journey to give the other tutorial players time to grow their own levels. But it’s this serial nature of the story that also develops other interesting characters, faction conflicts, reveals how the RPG progression works in advancing classes, evolving races, and what use professions are. It's good stuff. Especially as the author develops truly sociopathic characters as antagonists for the MC.

The RPG side of things is really good. There’s a clear multilayered system for progression. Combat classes level, so do people’s Human races, and eventually their crafting Professions. Each level adds to a person’s stats, gives them choices for powers/abilities/skills, and there’s enough options that the reader can theorize what they’d do. The crafting in the story is also very well done. There’s good details about the profession the MC chooses and enough challenges that it's not boring and that he doesn’t automatically become super good immediately. The later application of the profession also makes all that hard work feel like a good payoff.

One of the only annoying notes in the story was the ending. It’s a serial story and the last 10% shows it. Nothing too terrible, development of characters that had become prominent in the story but no big resolutions or any conflicts I’d hoped for. It just sort of peters out as a pause more than a solid end.

Overall, the story got really interesting once it started adding more complex antagonists and even though the mid story shifts to crafting it eventually returns to the action focus that keeps the pacing tight.

Score: 7.6 out of 10

Return of the Shattered Constellation

Synopsis Return Of The Shattered Constellation

A mere human who ascended to the position of a god, ‘Twilight of the Gods’. After becoming infamous as an Evil God, he lost everything. His Constellation, his faith and his status. His divinity got cut off, and his divine power disappeared.

“I’d like you to work with me.”

That’s when the master of the Underworld, Thanatos, offered his hand… After grabbing Thanatos’s hand, ‘Twilight of the Gods’ decided to live again as the player ‘Lee Changseon’ to get back at the gods who threw him down to the underworld!

‘So, I’ve really come back.’

My Opinion: 27 chapters, Free, No English Publisher

An action focused regressor story where the main character (MC) uses every bit of his foreknowledge to become as powerful as possible with the goal of making all the gods that had invaded earth pay for how he ended up dying. The MC is an aggressive type and doesn’t take any disrespect, which oddly earns him the interest of several gods during his tutorial. There’s lots of dungeon diving, exploiting not only secrets in the dungeon, but also knowledge of special powerful people who aren’t yet powerful. It’s really fun just to see what kinds of tricks the MC will use each week.

Score: 7.8 out of 10
