Luke is an apprentice leather worker, training with his family to one day take over the business. He and his friends Andre, Taylor, and Zed have known each other forever, and swear that nothing will ever tear apart their friendship.
Then the Royal Decree comes. With the Dynasty of Dogs invading, and strange monsters appearing in the Hollow Kingdom, a draft has been implemented. Everyone seventeen or older is required to be tested for โPotentialโ. If they have it, they will join the mysterious and renowned Ascender Corps. If not, they will be drafted into the Legion as a forced recruit.
Three of the friends test as powerful, or dangerous, classes of Ascender. Luke is found to have Potential, barely, but when he steps through the portal to begin his trainingโฆ he is pulled to a plane that shouldn't exist. With no class trainer, the possibility of survival is low. Luke decides that he wants to live, and keeping his humanity isn't going to help.
His best chance is going Full Murderhobo.
My Opinion: 373 pages, $4.99, Available On Kindle Unlimited
Such a great, fun story. Half of it is just training of the various characters, and the other half is a big mission with lots of fighting. But it has such interesting power sets and quirky characters it's just lots of fun.
RPG stuff exists but is custom with simplified stats and sub stats, abilities and powers that level and evolve, potentia instead of XP. Good solid stuff thatโs tracked well without being too much.

The primordial waters, full of algae and unicellular organisms... Not quite how one would imagine the end of the world, is it?
The goal is to evolve and reach the land. Use your teeth, claws, stings, and whatever else you deem appropriate to take down your opponents and survive in the New World.
Dan used to work at the Psychic Agency, making a living by swindling naive clients. One day, however, this came to a sudden halt. A group of thugs paid him a visit and took him away. As if that wasn't bad enough, the world had decided that it had had enough of us humans.
After that day, humanity was no more. Those who survived the Apocalypse have been forced to fight for their lives.
Dan, to his misfortune, didn't become a gray-bearded wizard he had always hoped to be. Little did he know that he'd be forced to start his new life from the very beginning.
Perhaps he should have paid more attention in biology class.
My Opinion: 229 pages, $3.99, Available On Kindle Unlimited
A very entertaining monster evolution story that takes you from single celled organisms to multicellular custom monsters. Like many other reviewers noted, it follows a very similar game system to Spore. The game mechanics use evolution and skill points gained through leveling to grow the main character and his faction as they try to survive in their environments. Thereโs lots of good interesting conflicts between mobs and other factions eventually. The end twist is a little forced, but does setup more faction conflicts for future books even if it does also end the story on a cliffhanger.
Overall, good stuff and I especially enjoyed the addition of a control power set instead of other types of magic.

Valentines in an Apocalypse
What happens when the apocalypse is over; to love, strained and torn?
How do you pick up the pieces, when life stabilises?
It's a question our heroes must ask themselves, when they're no longer fighting off swarms of monsters, no longer struggling for Credits and Levels.
Valentine's in the Apocalypse is set four years after the System Apocalypse has arrived, between books 5 and 6 of the System Apocalypse and features new characters. The story is set in Vancouver, BC.
My Opinion: 24 pages, $2.99, Not on Kindle Unlimited
I grabbed this short story on sale and donโt think I would have picked this up otherwise. I like the System Apocalypse universe but this story didnโt really do it for me. Itโs not badly written or anything but instead of the action most of the series has, this one is really just social stuff. The story is about a husband and wife realizing they need to reconnect as a couple, whether it's the RPG apocalypse or not. Simple, cute, but not my cup of tea.

10 years ago, the monster horde from the rift formed from space and time started attacking the mankind. At the same time, people have started to awaken the power and began hunting the monsters for fame and money Lee SungHoon, in need of money because of his motherโs sickness, takes a dangerous job to help hunt those monsters four times a month by acting as a bait for the hunters But one day, he is heavily injured by a monster and remembers his past life as a sorcerer king โHuh? Did I just die?ยป โWait, I was a Sorcerer King Kratraus in my previous life?โ With his past memories, SungHoonโs overpowered magic show begins
My Opinion: 105 chapters +, FREE, No English License
Setup more like Monster Hunter set in the modern world with a calamity happening 10 years in the past and monsters appearing along with people being awakened to get powers to fight them. Like Solo Leveling, the main character (MC) is a low level helper who risks his life being bait to help pay for his motherโs medical bills. Where the story shifts is once the MC is injured and recalls that he had a past life that gives him over powered magical abilities, and he becomes one of the awakened and is able to level up by earning XP from killing monsters.
On the story side of things it was just fun to see the MC start out as a regular person risking his life to help his family and then transition to increasingly powerful roles as he used his vast magic knowledge from his last life to play support roles then as the main action monster killer. It was interesting to see the combination of magic and technology as the MCs powers developed. Iโll admit that the story feels pretty relaxed and slice-of-life once the MC heals his mom without any real goal but thereโs a big emphasis on action.
On the RPG side of things, it's a mixture of magic thatโs translated by the system into levels, XP, and skills like magical repair and spells. Thereโs also a MMO type style to the fights with one person grabbing aggro, tanks, damage dealers, and support and hearlers.
Art: The art is good. It transitions a bit from the start to the most recent release, but it still brings the action through.
