Death Is the Destiny of All (The Twenty-Sided Eye Series Book 4)

The gloves are off, and the invasion has begun.

Rook has turned his attention onto the newly-formed Kingdom of the Iron Dice. In his mind, Joe has become a nuisance that must be squashed. How will Joe’s castle prevail when not one, but two armies march upon it?

Joe and Zoya no longer have a shield of ignorance to hide behind. If they face Rook, it will be with the full knowledge of their own true mortal peril. They may be Champions, with near-immortality, but they are still just two micro-sentients facing a god-like being.

The adventure continues as Joe and Zoya journey back to their kingdom in hopes of bringing order to a dungeon that has been falling into chaos. How will they prioritize which fire to put out? Or will everything they have built burn down to ashes?

If Joe and Zoya don’t build levels, strength, and abilities quickly, then the kingdom will fall.

From an Amazon Bestseller in Superhero Science Fiction, Kip Terrington continues The Twenty-Sided Eye Series. Combining his various passions, this series involves: world building, an Artificial Intelligence, LitRPG / GameLit, merging with the machine: Cyberpunk, science fiction, fantasy, character development, booger humor, and some moral dilemmas to boot.

My Opinion: 378 pages, $2.99, Available On Kindle Unlimited

Even without a recap, it was easy to fall back into the story and remember why I liked the characters and general world. I’ll admit, the story has lost some of the grand world building sections but they existed to build up the world and that’s been done. The story more closely follows the main character (MC) and his adventures leveling, building up and defending his kingdom, and his interactions with the various forces that want to take over his place of power. There’s good action-adventure and kingdom building and fun interactions between characters I liked. Overall, a good read.

How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps

For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

And so, Yui Shaw sets out with an ambitious plan. A 10-step plan.

She'll find a way to obtain the Hero's legendary sword. She'll earn obscure classes, gain levels, and increase her skills. She'll travel to the meticulously-crafted dungeons that seem designed for one specific Hero to complete. And, if she's truly (un)fortunate, she might even find a fairy.

She might not be a Hero—but if she can fake it long enough, she might still be able to save the world.

My Opinion: 151 pages, $2.99, Available On Kindle Unlimited

This is a casual read that mostly pokes fun at chosen one hero stories. The setup takes place on a magical RPG fantasy world where the demon Lord is advancing more quickly than expected and the hero that's supposed to be summoned to defeat him isn't going to show up in time. So the MC decides he'll be the one to fight the demon Lord by cheating and exploiting his way to gather the traditional hero items. The story makes plenty of jokes poking fun at the genre with lots of Zelda references thrown in too.

On the game mechanic side, there's enough for this to be LitRPG. Levels, skills, classes, items, dungeons. However after the 20% mark, there's a lot of time jumping that bumps up the Mcs level in leaps and bounds. Which makes some of the level gains feel a little unearned. On the plus side, the MC uses less common classes and skill combos to power level and eventually gather the hero items he needs.

Overall, the story is fine. If the humor lands with you, you'll enjoy it. The parody got a little old for me and I found myself a little less interested once leveling started to feel predetermined and months of time were summarized to give the MC new powers. Still, entertaining enough. I’ll note the audiobook did a better job of entertaining.

Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint

(Show Comic Pages)

Back then, Dokja had no idea. He had no idea his favorite web novel 'Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse' was going to come to life, and that he would become the only person to know how the world was going to end. He also had no idea he would end up becoming the protagonist of this novel-turned-reality. Now, Dokja will go on a journey to change the course of the story and save humankind once and for all.

My Opinion: 18 Chapters +, Free/Paywall, English Publisher

Note: There’s also a translated light novel version of the story that is ongoing. The review is for the webcomic.

Ok. This only has about 18 chapters right now, but it’s sooo good. Every chapter takes a twist I wasn’t expecting and even though the main character (MC) technically has foreknowledge of what’s happening with the end of the world he doesn’t feel OP. Such a good combination of elements: RPG Apocalypse, Reincarnator, Streaming, Intelligent MC.

Art is good too. Brings the apocalypse alive. A little graphic with the deaths, but its the apocalypse. What else would you expect?

I only wish there were hundreds of chapters for me to read right now.

Score: 8 out of 10

The Nightmare Game System: A LitRPG Horror

The title says it all.

For me, I found the beginning difficult. It wasn't the writing, just darker than I'm used to. I had trouble with resident evil 5 for a while. This book reminded me a bit of the Resident evil series. Maybe I'm a wimp about horror. If so, the horror aspect's pretty good. I found Blair the AI annoying. Once I got in a ways, I found my groove and by the end of the book I can see a pretty good setup for a series. I thought overall it was well written. It was also painful for me as I can get squeamish at times and well the mc won't win the nice guy of the year award. I'm more fond of heroes.

Artificial Dungeon: For Sale By Owner

The merchant of death

This story is pretty much one long bad day for the merchant MC even though the story covers a longer stretch of time. His landlord/neighbor covets his store and will stop at nothing to get it. It's a decent read. It pretty much feels like the mc bumbles through things and doesn't make many choices of his own. Mix orphans, a dungeon, and an evil landlord then watch the blood and tears flow.

Unbound Deathlord: Corruption (Unbound Deathlord Series Book 3)

Wow

Some serious head bending things await readers. After finishing reading this I need to go back and reread parts to understand the ending. I enjoyed the read but now I've got an Inception/Slaughter House 5 feeling and wonder what just happened.
