LitRPG Podcast 014
Welcome to Episode 14 of the LitRPG Podcast. The only podcast dedicated to LitRPG.
I’m Ramon Mejia. I’m here to bring you the latest LitRPG news, reviews, and author interviews.
Before we begin I want to give a big shoutout to our newest Patreon supporters: Justin Johanson $3 level, and Blaise Corvin and Edward Castle who are amazingly supporting the podcast at the $6 a month level.
Because they’ve all pledged at least $3 a month, they get an original funny/weird video of their choice. So if anyone in the audience wants to suggest anything interesting I and my friend Edgar can do, drop a suggestion in the comments section. Then Justin, Blaise, and Edwards can decide what they want to see.

New Releases and Reviews
Gamescape: Overworld
In a futuristic version of Earth, society is mostly controlled by a company that produces an addictive virtual reality game called Chimera. Everyone plays Chimera. Defeating the levels is how you earn enough points for clothes, food, even medical enhancements. Miguel Anderson is good at it. In fact, he’s better than anyone he knows. He spends all of his free time playing, hoping to reach Level 25. At Level 25 you can pick any prize you want—and Miguel needs a new biometric heart. When the game runners announce a global competition to launch a new version with untold prizes, Miguel enters and becomes a team leader. That’s new for him—playing on a team. And complicated, as the game becomes a delicate power play between wholly unexpected players.
My Opinion: Can’t give the book a full review, I only read the sample and reviews. It’s LitRPG since it the story takes place in the virtual reality world of Chimera, and the main character has to get to level 25 to get his new heart.
The sample I read, already reveals an interesting game world with puzzling levels and boss fights. From the sample and the reviews I could find, it sounds like a good read. The vibe I get is that it’s themed similarly to Ready Player One, kid enters a VR contest and along the path to winning finds himself.
I’ve ordered a used physical copy of the book since it’s cheaper than the e-book which is $9.99 but it hasn’t arrived yet. However, I felt the need to let you know it’s out there since I know some of you guys need your LitRPG fix.
The Secret of the Dark Forest: Way of the Shaman Series, Book 3 Audible
My Opinion: Good audiobook. With the Kartos Empire now open to players to transfer to, Mahan has a new quest line to explore. Join him as he forms his guild and explores the Dark Forest.
Note: If you’ve purchased the e-book, you can get a special deal for the audiobook for $4.
I talked to the author of the story, Vasily Mahanenko about this book a couple months ago and you can catch the interview at litrpgpodcast.com or click on the link in the shownotes.
Galactic Fist of Legend Vol. 1
In the year 2018 a bright star appeared near Earth. Humanity as a whole was briefly introduced to a race of beings far beyond their understanding. During that brief interaction a proclamation was made, Defeat the Grand Emissary or become the eternal slaves of those who had arrived at Earth.
The only chance for victory was for people all across the globe to make a choice. When prompted to become a champion and a play a bizarre game of life or death they could choose yes or no. Those who chose no, went about their lives afterward. All memory of the event was lost despite the fact that their very existence as a free species hung by a single thread.
Will those who said yes manage to survive the horror of the game and become strong enough to defeat the Grand Emissary. Can one of them become... The Galactic Fist of Legend.
Also, it's a comedy with significant parody elements. Pretty obvious, right?
My Opinion: At 240 pages, it costs $2.99, not available on Kindle Unlimited. Originally written on the Royal Road, this LitRPG story is from the same wonderful author that wrote Origin ARS, and the oh so sexy Freelance Saga.
Our world is set to be enslaved by unless humans volunteer to to participate in a game like scenarios and eventually get powerful enough to beat The Grand Emissary.
That stuff is just the background. Much of the story takes place in a zombie apocalypse world/alternate universe where the main character, Scott, has to survive and gain enough XP to grow strong and complete his assigned quests. The character also travels through other game universes that parody familiar worlds like Mario Bro., Metroid, and others.
This is an action filled story that’s also funny sometimes. Available on Amazon and Smashswords (coupon code in shownotes!)
