Simon Vale at Magic Dome books did a written interview with one of their most popular authors, Vasily Mahanenko. They go into both the reasons for Vasily’s popularity, his future series plans, and how he’s wearing multiple hats as not only an author but an indie publisher of other people’s work. A good read.

Jeffrey Falcon Logue, author of the Slime Dungeon Chronicles is at MomoCon right now (May 23rd-26th) in Atlanta GA. He has a booth and everything. Go say hello if you’re in the area. Also, go support the guy on his Kickstarter for his kick butt side scroller game he’s making based on the Slime Dungeon Chronicles series. He already has a really good demo.

Elven Accord (Apocalypse Gates Author's Cut Book 4)
Meeting a dark Elf was unexpected. Kuro offered unconditional servitude in exchange for being saved, and Gothy was determined to make the most of it.
Kuro had a single request: to warn the Queen that the King had broken their pact. Alvin agreed to take her to her world to report, wondering if it would be as easy as it sounded. Meanwhile, Kuro held up her end of the bargain, doing everything Gothy asked of her.
Driving through the Svargax Gate, what they saw before them was not what any of them expected: two armies at war with each other, one composed of the dark Queen’s Elves, the other of the light King’s Elves.
Feeling his simple plan go out the window, Alvin decided to find out if the King’s Elves could be reasoned with. Realizing it would be more difficult than he thought, Alvin wondered if he could reach some sort of accord with either side.
(This book contains adult situations, in all their horror and glory, including but not limited to: sex, abuse, drug use, and murder. It also contains graphic sex scenes, which portray elements of BDSM and harem. You’ve been warned.)
My Opinion: 509 pages, $4.99, Available on Kindle Unlimited
Another good entry in the series, it continues with the slice of life action/adventure. This time the core group travels to another dimension where elves live. The story has a little more of a fantasy background, but the same RPG progression. Though there are updates to the game system. Enjoyable if you’re this far into the series. Though like normal, I should warn you that there is graphic sex in this story.
Score: 7.3 out of 10
Elven Accord (Apocalypse Gates Author's Cut Book 4)
Code Hero (Champion is Playing Book #2) LitRPG Series
Dan’s first tournament may have ended, but life goes on. His luck is still with him in his regular life as well, and it seems to be endless. However, he is surrounded by very smart people, and surely one of them is going to start doubting his talents, at least a bit?
Especially now, with a new game about to start. The latest foes are even more dangerous than the last and the rules are still unfamiliar to him. Dan wonders how reasonable the rules are in the first place. Is it really possible to take a competition that lasts a couple of hours at most seriously? A competition in which you are supposed to work together with simple monsters in order to destroy the enemy base?
And so, the story of an ordinary Russian guy who suddenly found himself in the future continues, and another battle between his luck and the rest of the world is about to start. Who will come out on top?
My Opinion: 344 pages, $3.99, Available on Kindle Unlimited
If you liked book 1, you’ll likely enjoy book 2 since many of the same qualities run through it.
In book 2, the main character (MC) continues to be a lucky guy, winning many of his MOBA style matches by luck as much as strategy. The same multi perspective narrative is here with the reader seeing events not only from the MC view but from his enemies and allies. It’s fun to see their views of events and how they think he’s a genius and that’s still this running gag. However, there’s a late story twist that loses me a bit. Not enough to ruin the story but enough that I didn’t enjoy this one as much as book 1 in the series. Part of that is also that I’m just not as big a fan of MOBAs as I am RTS, which is what book 1 used.
Score: 7.1 out of 10
Code Hero (Champion is Playing Book #2) LitRPG Series
Web of Worlds (Reality Benders Book #4): LitRPG Series
Ceasefires have one big downside: they eventually come to an end. And when they do, once again game nodes are set ablaze, and platoons of Dark Faction soldiers threaten our customary world with destruction. The enemy has grown stronger and more numerous. To make matters worse, they also got their hands on even deadlier weaponry. They have learned painful lessons from previous encounters and adjusted their tactics accordingly. What's more, the vast hordes of enemies are led by the greatest strategist of modern times, and his mage advisors can see all possible futures so they always know just what to do.
How can our world possibly stand up against such an enemy? Our only hope is the bravery and tenacity of our best fighters, those who’d rather die than surrender. Well, that and a starship captained by one lone mage.
My Opinion: 453 pages, $6.99, Not Available on Kindle Unlimited
Another good book in the series. It has all the good space faring, action adventure you’ve come to enjoy from the last couple books. Plus the plot moves forward on the war with the Dark Faction and has some interesting twists. Read the story in one sitting and enjoyed it all.
Score: 7.6 out of 10
Web of Worlds (Reality Benders Book #4): LitRPG Series
Reborn: Apocalypse (A LitRPG/Wuxia Story)(Volume 1)
If you could turn back the clock and fix all the mistakes you ever made, would you?
From the author of the award-winning Web-novel 'Reborn: Evolving From Nothing' comes the tale of Micheal Care, a swordsman that could only be considered a middling warrior in Humanity's Last Army.
Micheal's answer to that question would be quite simple.
Yes. A million times yes.
Humanity has fallen, killed by stronger races of beings after being warped away to a new reality, the mystical 7 Layers.
Humanity's goal had been simple. Make it through all 7 Layers and reach Heaven.
Humanity failed.
Humanity died.
Micheal Care's memories have been transported back into his past self thanks to a magical Artifact he found by chance.
He is no chosen savior. He is no divinely picked hero.
Can he change the future? Can he catch up to the mightiest warriors of humanity and surpass them?
My Opinion: 692 pages, $4.95, Available on Kindle Unlimited
This story has a big following online where there are many more chapters to the story than are in the 1st volume. It is really similar to Towers of Heaven in both premise and basic content. It’s not a copy or anything but both use a common setup of humanity failing sometime in the future to superior forces and the main character (MC) traveling back in time and using his foreknowledge of events to come to become overpowered and as he tries to save humanity. Both also have this RPG apocalypse setting where people fight more powerful monsters as they ascend levels with the ultimate goal of beating the big bad at the top.
However, the premise is where the two diverge, Reborn: Apocalypse has an original story with original dungeon levels. In particular the story uses a point driven RPG system to advance character power progression where people can buy a variety of fantasy and sci-fi powers. The story leans more towards Wuxia/Cultivation for the main character’s powers in particular. I actually like the progression mechanics and action a bit more in this story.
Overall, it’s a fun action oriented slice of life adventure. There is monster fighting, cultivation, OP MC, and a RPG apocalypse. I really liked it.
Score: 7.8 out of 10
