Apple Vs the FBI
Earlier this week a US federal magistrate has ordered Apple to help the Federal Bureau of Investigation unlock the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino shooters. Apple has security features installed on all iPhones that wipe the phones content if an incorrect password is entered 10 times. Sheri Pym, the federal judge, has ordered Apple not to turn off its encryption but to make it easier for federal agents to randomly guess the suspects’ iPhone passcode.
In an open letter Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, is rejecting the request based on the precedent it would set. “Once created, the technique could be used over and over again, on any number of devices.”
On a side note, John Mcafee, (Mcafee Antivirus software) has offered to decrypt the phone using social engineering.

Hospital Computers Under Ransom
On Monday CSO reported that Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center’s (HPMC) computers had falling victim to ransomware and were completely down. Attackers demanded $3.6 million in Bitcoins to decrypt the system. For over a week the hospital tried to continue to function, at reduced capacity, using old fashioned paper and pen. However, as of Wednesday of this week the hospital has admitted to paying 40 Bitcoins or about $17,000 to the group that encrypted their servers.
The hospital says they are still working with LAPD and the US FBI to identify the attackers.

360 Terabytes Storage Crystal
Researchers at Southampton University have developed a technique to use femtosecond laser pulses to write data in the 3D structure of quartz at the nanoscale level. Data is read by using another pulse of light and recording its polarization. They estimate they can keep 360 terabytes of data on one piece of quartz that should last around 13.8 billion years at up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Printing 3D body parts
Doctors at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine announced Monday they’ve managed to print living tissue and organs that function properly in animals, specifically a human ear that formed blood vessels and cartilage when implanted under the skin of mice. Their article in Nature titled “A 3D bioprinting system to produce human-scale tissue constructs with structural integrity” says they’ve printed muscle, bone and ear tissue so far. The Integrated Organ and Printing System uses “biodegradable, plastic-like material” for the structure and water-based ink to hold cells and microchannels.

GameStop CEO Paul Raines told Fox Business Channel Monday that Gamestop would begin selling PlayStation VR “this fall.”
Sony previously said PlayStation VR would come out in the first half of 2016.
The Chewbacca Actor Is Tweeting Pages From a Very Early, Very Different Script of Star Wars
The original Star Wars went through so many iterations before it became the beloved movie we all know today. As Chewbacca, actor Peter Mayhew of course was given the different version of the scripts the movie went through, and now he’s posting pages of the script on Twitter every day.
The original title page titled the film The Adventures of Luke Starkiller, as taken from the “Journal of the Whills.” This was a bizarre framing device Lucas once wanted for the film, that somehow someone on Earth had found a mysterious alien journal, which would link the movie to the real world.

Harley Quinn Cuts ties with the Joker
In the latest Harley Quinn comic the former Joker sidekick finally confronts her former Puddin’ while breaking out her current boyfriend, Mason, from Arkham Asylum. Even before the two encounter each other again, the Joker’s toxic mind games have been tormenting Harley. He leaks her disguise to some guards, making the break-out a little harder, and in true Joker style, he’s been trying to poison Mason against her by revealing her dark past, when she was at the Joker’s side.
Harley originally enters the Joker’s cell just to talk, to tell him how she’s moved on without him. But the Joker goads her and goads her, to the point that they start brawling. And Harley just beats the shit out of him, again and again, even biting part of his lip off when he tries to kiss her.
Harley Quinn #25, by Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Chad Hardin, Alex Sinclair, and Tom Napolitano.
