Arstechnica reports that Free HTC Vive headsets will be sent to select developers this spring.

·        HTC Vive is a virtual reality head mounted display, similar to the Oculus Rift, developed between HTC and the Valve.

·        Road to VR posted their impressions of the HTC Vive when they tested it at GDC and here is  how they described it

o   Valve’s SteamVR is more than just a headset. With the HMD for visuals, innovative controllers for interacting, and a 15×15 foot space in which you can comfortably move with incredibly robust tracking, SteamVR is a stage for the imagination. I believe that this stage represents what will become the standard platform for high-end VR.” http://www.roadtovr.com/valve-steamvr-htc-vive-hands-on-gdc-2015-stage-constant-presence/

·        Question to Edgar: You’ve used the Oculus Rift DK2 and Gear VR, what do you think of having a new player in the VR headset game?

·        I think this is a very interesting tactic for HTC and Valve. This is an attempt to get as much content out as possible before their already announced 2015 consumer release date. One of the things that will determine whether VR succeeds is no longer if there is good hardware, (there is HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Sony Morpheus, Gear VR), but if there is enough jaw dropping content to support the industry.

·        Last year 3rd quarter Activision Blizzard reported $481 million revenue from digital sales which was up from 2013’s revenue of $383 million. They cited Hearthstones free to play model as a source of that increase. (http://venturebeat.com/2014/08/05/hearthstone-and-diablo-iii-push-activision-blizzard-to-bigger-digital-revenues/ )

·        Audiobook-Nice Dragons Finish Last, written by Rachel Aaron. The book description: “As the smallest dragon in the Heartstriker clan, Julius survives by a simple code: keep quiet, don’t cause trouble, and stay out of the way of bigger dragons. But this meek behavior doesn't fly in a family of ambitious magical predators, and his mother, Bethesda the Heartstriker, has finally reached the end of her patience.

Now, sealed in human form and banished to the DFZ--a vertical metropolis built on the ruins of Old Detroit--Julius has one month to prove he can be a ruthless dragon or kiss his true shape goodbye forever. But in a city of modern mages and vengeful spirits where dragons are considered monsters to be exterminated, he’s going to need some serious help to survive this test.

He only hopes humans are more trustworthy than dragons..”
