Hell’s Glitch
In the novel, the main character is a video game tester that loves dark and difficult games. Boy does he get what he’s looking for. The combat in the VR game is brutal, difficult, and more dependent on skill and tactics than stats. The game mechanics are very familiar replacing XP with souls.
If you like the Dark Souls video games you’ll probably like this novel. Also, turns out there is a series of comics based on the Dark Souls franchise you can read after you’re done with this.
Ingame: Virtual reality enabled
Ingame, a world where magic is real. Where being Human just means you are not a Dwarf or an Elf. See a cynical young man who is working towards getting past level one. Critical Failures

My Opinion: One of my favorite funny LitRPG novel series. The world these guys are trapped in is kind of a D&D knock off, which I LOVE. There is a lot of cursing and lots of funny moments. The level of humor is on par with a Kevin Smith movie. The audiobooks are really good too.
Universe Online
Even with our modern technology, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis cannot be treated or cured. I've been bed or chair bound since I was a kid. The advent of Virtual Reality technology has given me a chance for a new life. Or rather dozens of them. Heh.
But a new game is coming out; one with the power to change the world. It uses a brand new technology, based around the first ever deep immersion Dive Pod. With it there is no more game lag or graphical limits. It is being heralded as the greatest breakthrough in Virtual Reality technologies since its founding.
Reborn
One of my favorite series of LitRPG novels. The leveling up, skill system, and relationships formed throughout each chapter are great. I find myself anxiously awaiting the release of each new chapter. Just to be clear, this is not a heavy epic story, it’s mostly just fun adventuring with a bit of harem side story thrown in.
