Every weekend this summer we expect major motion pictures to be released. With so few movie dollars available some movies will do better than others. This weekend the big contenders were Mad Max: Fury Road and Pitch Perfect 2.
Pitch Perfect 2 stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Adam DeVine, Ester Dean and Elizabeth Banks. The film is a musical comedy about the acapella group's rise, fall, and participation in an international acapella competition.
Pitch Perfect 2- Opening weekend earned $60 million dollars domestically. Internationally $27 million in 29 territories to bring its overseas total to $38.1 million, including Australia’s take from last weekend where it opened early. So far that is a grand total of $108.4 million to date.
Mad Max: Fury Road stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne. The film is an action oriented car chase set in the Mad Max world. Mad Max: Fury Road brought in an estimated $44.4 million from 3,702 theaters this opening weekend.
While both films did very well, clearly Pitch Perfect 2 won the opening weekend by a sizable margin. Pitch Perfect 2 trounced the action film Mad Max: Fury Road. Guess this proves the mass appeal of a music filled woman powered comedy.
