Jurassic World- The sequel you’ve been waiting for

Editor’s Note: This is a spoiler free review of the movie

Jurassic Park was one of the best films of the 1990’s. It sparked the imaginations of children and adults alike. Never before had a movie brought to life the majestic beauty and terror of dinosaurs. Unfortunately, every sequel after (The Lost World, Jurassic Park III) tried and failed to re-create the magic of the original. That’s not to say they were bad films, they just weren’t as good as Jurassic Park. This time, with Jurassic World, they got it right.

Jurassic World is set 20 years after the original Jurassic Park. This time the Dinosaur theme park idea has succeeded. There is a beautiful Disney like theme park filled with dinosaurs of all variety and it seems like the park has had years of safe visitors. That is, until they start to tinker with creating a genetic hybrid dinosaur to boost ticket sales.

Fairly quickly after this brief introduction to the new park, Jurassic World gets into the action. There’s no long drawn out set up. Just, ‘here’s a dinosaur theme park with real dinosaurs’ and then bad things happen. The quick pace of the film really makes you forget that this movie is over two hours long.

We’re not going to spoil the film for anyone but know that Jurassic World is just as good as the original. Don’t worry though. If you’ve never seen Jurassic Park, you’ll still enjoy this film a great deal. However, if you did see Jurassic Park then you’ll get an extra bit of nostalgia with all the nods and easter eggs pointing to the original film. There were several times while I watched the film that I forgot I was a grown up and felt the same sense of awe I had the first time I watched Jurassic Park in the movie theater.
