The Newb (The Adventures of Horc Book 1)

Friends don’t leave friends to die in dungeons!

Alan Gosling signed up to beta test Halfworld for a little extra cash. He got a lot more than he bargained for.

When disaster strikes, he’s got to fight to stay alive in both the digital world and the real one.

Even with the help of friends, Alan, aka Horc the Half Orc Ranger, isn’t sure if he can make it out of the game before his time runs out in the real world.

In beta testing, Halfworld still has a few bugs to work out, and without a wiki to give them guidance, Horc’s party doesn’t know what they’re getting into as they try to free the area around Stone Helm City from the grip of the Gnoll King. Can they level up and get enough power to take him out before Alan’s real-world problems become terminal?

My Opinion: 300 pg?, $2.99, Available on Kindle Unlimited

This is a slice of life, trapped in the game LitRPG story. After a brief introduction of the main character (MC), he’s in the game by the 3% mark and stays in game the rest of the novel. There’s a minor trapped in the game element, but the story mostly follows the MC as he learns about the game, learns about his class, goes on adventures, and dungeon dives.

The game mechanics are going to be familiar to anyone that’s played a fantasy MMO in the last couple but they’re nothing innovative.

Overall, this is better than decent slice of life story that you can pick up and put down at your leisure. Again, no real heavy plot, just some RPG adventuring. If you like that kind of story, you’ll have a nice time with this.

Score: 7.0 out of 10
