Hot Topic previously had a deal to buy ThinkGeek for $122 million last week but GameStop has beat that purchase price with a $140 million offer. Hot Topic will be paid a termination fee by GameStop for breaking their deal with ThinkGeek, so everyone gets to make some money.
GameStop has had a problem getting people into their stores since the online game buying/renting market has become so popular. Hopefully this expansion into the geek gear market will get people into their doors.
