Media for the ICRA 2015 publication: "Coordinated Launching of an Ornithopter with a Hexapedal Robot" We develop a cooperative launching system for a 13.2 gram ornithopter micro-aerial vehicle (MAV), the H2Bird, by carrying it on the back of a 32 gram hexapedal millirobot, the VelociRoACH.
UC Berkeley’s Biomimetic Millisystems Lab recently paired its speedy running VelociRoACH with its flying H2Bird ornithopter. Creating a robot that can move on land and fly is difficult so UC Berkeley combined two different robots instead.
This video was just too cool not to show. Though seeing two robots coordinate for a larger goal just might be the first sign of the Robot Apocalypse.
